Is someone you know spending lots of time gambling and spending more than they can afford to lose? Are they borrowing money or starting to sell items? Are they becoming secretive about money and see gambling as a way to get out of debt?
Gambling could be a problem or become a problem.
At the Problem Gambling Foundation (PGF) our face-to-face counselling is free, professional and confidential. Counselling is available throughout New Zealand for individuals, couples, families and groups so you can get the help and support you need and it won't cost you anything. We also offer counselling by telephone for people in remote areas or who are housebound.
Free group counselling is also available for both the person with the gambling problem and anyone else who is concerned about the gambling, whether family, friend or workmate.
PGF refers to and works with other mental health and allied professionals where appropriate, such as general practitioners, budget advisors, family counsellors, mental health agencies, alcohol and drug agencies and many others.
We also works closely with prisons and probation services offering counselling and support for Corrections clients both in person and in the community.
PGF supports Gamblers Anonymous and GamAnon. For details of meetings contact the Gambling Helpline on 0800 654 655.
