Local Government Advisory Services
The PGF supports the need for development of an effective and caring public health policy for the introduction, maintenance and regulation of gambling in new Zealand. It advocates the need to separate regulation from enforcement and policy, and the need for an independent commission.
The PGF supports the rights of local government and its citizens to have a say in the type and quantum of gambling in its area and the need to independent research in this area. The PGF regularly presents these concerns, supported by evidence, to Select Committees of Parliament, Committees of Inquiry, the Casino Control Authority and other committees, and to political parties, legislative bodies, media and other informative organisations.
Our specialist Local Government Team works closely with TLA's to raise awareness of problem gambling to local government and agencies.
The PGF is committed to raising awareness around the harm that can result from the lack of control of the growth, provision and uninformed participation in - and qualitative changes - in gambling in New Zealand. Contact the Chief Executive Officer, Graeme Ramsey, on (09) 368 1520.
