Consumer Voices
We believe that it is important for our communities to know the truth about gambling so that they can make an informed choice about it rather than be lured in by the inaccuracies and false promises of the advertising. Our aim is to move individuals and communities to a position of strength in dealing with gambling.
Consumer Voices Educational Workshop
In our Consumer Voices Educational Workshop we provide current information about how the gambling industry operates, how the machines really work, as well as the facts and figures on gambling in New Zealand.
At the Educational Workshop we listen to you and help you to tell your story in a more powerful and effective way, whether that means just telling it to yourself differently or going out to family, friends, co-workers or others. Learning how to tell your story in a powerful way helps not only you, but others as well.
After the educational workshop we offer several levels of participation. It is important to note that you may attend the Educational Workshop and choose to go no further in the process. There is no obligation or commitment to go any further. A participant may attend simply to gain information and an increased understanding of the facts about gambling in their community.
Other options include:
- Further training, including how to work with the media and how to effectively and powerfully tell your story
- To be on our mailing list for workshops, conferences and other events
- To receive the daily Todays Stories, sourced from New Zealand newspapers and around the world
- To join a group in your area committed to political action regarding gambling , if available
- To be a panel member at a discussion group or conference
- To attend the consumer voices stream at our conference next year
- To sign up for the forum on our web site
- To work with us on government submissions when needed
- Writing letters to the editor for your local newspaper
- Use of the PGF library
- Being available to make comments to the media (anonymously or otherwise)
- Bi-monthly meetings in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington to receive updates and discuss gambling-related
- issues
The Problem Gambling Foundation understands and respects the need for confidentiality as well as client safety issues. Therefore, anyone choosing to be actively involved in this project would receive our full support and assistance in maintaining their anonymity, if they choose to, and in keeping themselves safe in this process.
We support and encourage individuals and communities to know the facts before getting involved in gambling, before it's too late.
